Mission statement: Aiken Ladies Aside is an educational organization designed to promote riding side saddle and to provide opportunities to learn to ride and to learn the traditions and elegance of another era.

February 2011

The holidays are finally over, we have weathered some of the coldest Aiken weather in history, and now anxiously await warmer sunny days, longer hours of daylight filled with lots of riding!  Presently, we are busy preparing for the AHS Show in the Woods… www.AikenHorseShow.org Every Friday in March we will have sidesaddle practice at Ann Lawhorne’s, Cold Comfort Farm at 12:30.   We'd love to see everyone there, aside or astride; you can contact Ann for timetable & more information about her group lesson program which usually follows the side saddle practice.  Great news this year is that we are even expecting some ladies from Camden, SC to participate!   It would be lovely to have an ALA tailgate after the sidesaddle classes on that Saturday as we should finish up probably close to lunchtime anyway.  Lets discuss more at our general meeting for input.

Mark your calendars because the next general meeting will be held on Thursday March 24th at Marias on Pine Log Rd at 7pm; dutch treat… hope to see you all there for sharing of ideas, great food and friendship!

We are also hoping to have Kit Roszko back in May for another side saddle clinic; in spite of the windy & cold weather - the last one was indeed a great success with positive feedback from the riders.  If there is a member who would like to take on organizing it, we would offer them a free spot in the clinic!

Kathy Reynolds has graciously invited us back for another trail ride in the Camden hunt territory.  Stay tuned for dates & times; we are estimating this to be sometime also in May.

Presently looking into riding at the Broxton Bridge Plantation (one of Low Country Hunts Fixtures); hope to get a trail ride organized for all to enjoy this Spring before the weather gets too hot. Any further ideas for trail rides  & there corresponding locations are greatly appreciated!

Live to Ride, Ride to Live & hope to see everyone on March 24th at Marias 7pm!
