How much does it cost to join ALA?
Yearly membership dues are $25 for an individual membership and $50 for a family.

What equipment do I need?
You don't need anything more than a love of side saddle and/or an interest in riding "aside."

Can I try riding aside on an experienced horse first?
You are welcome to take a lesson on an experienced horse. We would be happy to help. Please contact ALA President, Betty Alexander to arrange one.

Do I need a "side saddle" horse?
Just about any horse will go sidesaddle but it's best to have a well mannered one.. Most horses take to the side saddle right away and never give it a second thought.... the most they do is turn their head around to look for your right leg! It's best to walk them around with the saddle on before mounting and turn them in a tight circle to the right and then the left for them to get a feel of the balance girth. It's also best to have a horse with some whther,otherwise the saddle could slip.
